For our first family trip to Costa Rica, we stayed in the small fishing village of Brasalito on the north-western side of the country. For a week we traveled up and down the coast eating fresh seafood, riding ATVs, sailing, zip lining, and watching night after night of amazing sunsets from the beach. Pura vida.

Indira restaurant and bar
I discovered this open air bar in Brasilito, a small fishing village on the west coast of Costa Rica while visiting in April, 2018. When I was here, the sun was just starting to set, Cumbia music was playing on a jukebox, and patrons had gathered inside to drink beer and watch the show. This is the kind of location you dream of finding when traveling, for it’s not just visually unique and rich with character, but an honest, authentic expression of the area and people who live there. When so much of the world is becoming standardized around a single aesthetic, it’s places like these you remember and wish you could return to.
