Tulum, Mexico is known for its beautiful beachfront resorts and sensational Mayan ruins, but the town itself is its own experience. Here you won’t find any giant hotels, chain restaurants or night clubs catering to tourists (unlike Playa del Carmen and Cancun to its north), but rather a quiet, laid-back town which mostly seems to keep to itself and avoid the spotlight. In April of 2017 my family rented a house in the middle of Tulum, and absolutely loved dining in local restaurants and exploring everything the region had to offer. Every chance I had, I’d ride a fixed gear bike around Tulum’s flat, dusty roads and search for interesting moments to capture.
